2012 marks the start of a new deep-green business plan competition giving budding MBA’s a chance to prove their sustainability chops. The first annual Madrona League Business Plan Competition is designed to foster bold innovation in resilient sustainable businesses that emphasizes all bottom lines: profit, people, planet, and purpose. The competition is presented jointly by Bainbridge Graduate Institute and Presidio Graduate School, founding members of the Madrona League.
Would-be competitors must apply by March 1st to become one of 16 teams invited to compete for $10,000 in prize money and inestimable green business bragging rights. Participants in the Sweet 16 round will receive expert coaching and have access to virtual pitch clinics prior to the first round of pitches, which will be submitted via video by April 8th. Judges will assess teams’ pitches for creativity, feasibility, and sustainability using a transparent grading rubric. The top six teams from the first round will participate in the final competition and awards banquet in Seattle on May 4th, 2012.
“We’re really proud to be introducing this competition into the growing world of sustainable business education with Presidio,” says BGI president and co-founder Gifford Pinchot III. “We expect to see the next Stockbox Grocers and Poweroza [two acclaimed B-school startups fostered within Presidio and BGI with deeply embedded environmental and social missions] emerge from the entries.”
