BGI’s First Ever Sailing Team

August 30th, 2012

Five BGI students (Benjamin Katz, Hilary Kilgour, Rachel Stamm, Amanda Thomas and Brittney Williams) identified themselves as sailors — rusty, but intrepid and enthusiastic — and came together this past weekend in Vancouver, BC as the first-ever BGI sailing team. They participated in the second annual UBC Sauder MBA Regatta sponsored by the MBA Sailing Club and the Robert H. Lee Graduate School at the Sauder School of Business, UBC. Thanks to a little “Net Impact” networking, BGI chapter lead Hilary Kilgour secured for the team the chance to sail under talented Skipper Annie Lambla, a Sauder student and UBC Net Impact chapter president.

Teams met up on Saturday morning to participate in qualifying “heats” to narrow the field racing for the Championship. Team BGI won their Saturday heat, and raced again on Sunday morning, finishing fourth out of eighteen teams. Not too bad for a motley group more adept at PowerPoint and Excel these days than adjusting sails!
