BGI alum, Sonja Skvarla, who is a member of Net Impact and runs A Social Ignition, recently wrote an eye-opening blog post on what she calls “The Great Untapped Hiring Source”. Skvarla reveals that 7% of the qualified workforce carries a felony conviction and is often excluded, sometimes even without an interview, during the hiring process. These working-age adults are often well-qualified and highly skilled. Skvarla offers advice and direction in the way of having an open hiring process for businesses.

Below is an excerpt from her post:

After a successful hire, be intentional about including others with similar backgrounds in your workforce. Start with one. Be successful. Repeat.
