An Evening of Conversation with BGI Founder Gifford Pinchot III and special guest and BGI alum Dawn Danby
Net Impact BGI is pleased to present the latest installment in our series of community events, this time focused on Intrapreneurship – making sustainable change from within. We are delighted to welcome our very own Gifford Pinchot, BGI Founder and genesis of the term “intrapreneurship” as one of our featured guests, joined by Dawn Danby, BGI C4 alum and Sustainable Design Program Manager at Autodesk. Dawn has not only driven many successful change efforts, but was named by Fast Company in 2009 as one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business.
We will begin by providing a broad overview of intrapreneurship – how it differs from entrepreneurship, how this management style has evolved from when Gifford first coined the term in 1978 and how it is being applied in today’s business world. Dawn will then share her story about how she has led intrapreneur initiatives at Autodesk and how she views it as a collaborative process. The floor will then be opened up for a lively Q&A, followed by networking.
As always, this event is open to the public and we encourage you to bring a classmate, mentor, co-worker, and/or friend. This is yet another great opportunity to build community with people in and outside of the BGI network, and to have the opportunity to see and hear from some extraordinary members of the BGI community.
We hope you share in the food, drink, and chance to spend quality time with quality people. Contact email@example.com if you have any questions.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Gifford believes that entrepreneurship releases energy in the direction of deep personal values. Similarly, intrapreneurship is a tool for releasing the creativity, values and entrepreneurial spirit of people who work in large corporations. “When you free people from fear and bureaucratic restraint, they are likely to choose innovation projects that serve their deeper values,” says Gifford. With the success of his books such as The Intelligent Organization and Intrapreneuring, Gifford has spent most of his career teaching intrapreneurship at large multinational companies (IBM, Shell, Ford, HP, Texas Instruments, DuPont, and others), government agencies, and non-profits.Gifford has taught intrapreneuring and sustainability at Yale, Harvard, MIT, the University of Colorado, many of the universities in Washington state and over 20 other major universities. Gifford was recently interviewed by Rainmakers TV to explain Intrapreneurship and sustainable business as taught at BGI.
Dawn Danby has spent 13 years working across disciplines in sustainable design. Her projects have ranged from a tree-covered pedestrian bridge on the US-Canada border to closed-loop manufacturing strategies and furniture design. At Autodesk, Dawn leads the Sustainability Workshop, which provides free, lightweight videos and resources online to teach young engineers, designers, and architects the principles and practice of sustainable design. Dawn co-authored the bestselling sustainability book Worldchanging: A User’s Guide to the 21st Century. She has given dozens of talks around the world, spoke at TEDGlobal in 2005, and was recognized by Fast Company in 2009 as one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business. Dawn teaches in the Design Strategy MBA at the California College of Arts and is a board member at Catapult Design. She has an industrial design degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MBA in Sustainable Business from the Bainbridge Graduate Institute.
